Bacterial glue, of course!

Bacteria repair cracks in buildings that have emerged by earthquakes or by the test of time. They do so with a self made super glue that hardens extremely. Scientists already gave this new silicone a name: "BacillaFilla." It are genetically engineered bacteria of the species Bacillus subtilis. This species lives in the ground, but rises by some genetic changes to a much higher level. Researchers have adapted the organism cleverly. Once the bacteria come into contact with a specific pH value, they start multiplying. Moreover, the bacteria are programmed in a way that they crawl as deeply as possible into a crack or hole. At the University of Utah a new kind of “underwater glue ' is being tested, which can possibly be used later on for repairing broken bones. These 2.5-centimeter-long sand castle worms are special creatures. They live in colonies on the seabed and build their own homes. This animal has a special organ on his head that produces a microscopic amount of glue that holds sand grains or shell fragments in place. Source:: kijk.nl

Smallest glue user: ant lifts one hundred times its own body weight.

Publ. 01-04-2010
Cambridge: A photo showing an ant lifting one hundred times its own weight won the first prize in a scientific photo contest. The picture shows an ant upside down to a glass plate holding a weight of five hundred thousand grams in his jaw. The photo was taken by Thomas Endlein biologist from the University of Cambridge. He wanted to know how an ant continues to stick his legs to something, even holding something heavy in his jaws. " Ants produce at the end of their feet a kind of glue so that they can stick to almost anything," said Endlein. The scientist hopes that his research is a contribution to the improvement of adhesives. Source: AD.

SKH increased the linear displacement of the Construction Sealer 60 to 3.6 mm and issued the certificate "glue for attaching cladding panels". This makes it possible to bond very large cladding panels. We are very pleased with the outcome and thank Mr. van Doorn and Mr. Tiessink of SKH for the wonderful cooperation. Unique is the fact that we can deliver the Construction Sealer 60 in black, white, gray and brown. Convenient for an "open" angle to finish in a color that suits the gable better.

Adolescent Brain works with post-it glue.

Publ. 12-03-2009
I try to understand, but really do not. How does an adolescent brain function? I think a teenagers’ brain consists of post-it papers: each leaf saying exactly what to do. In order. When the first command is finished the following post-it paper is revealed. Cheating does not work - changing the orders of the commands neither. The stack of post-it papers will be completely unbalanced and the owner of the chaotic brain will respond acccordingly. That is why the boy dares to ask where his gloves are when he is about to leave. Or that something needs to be printed quickly ( and also needs to be bounded in an elastic strap- so the binding apparatus must be found – and the train leaves in 10 minutes and it takes 5 minutes to bike and my computer must be switched on for the printer to work - and it is not). I promised myself not to help searching anymore if they want something at last, since I am out of post-it papers: for me it is relegated to separate papers (glue is dissolved). There is a paper seeing the gloves - and that paper states exactly where, but finding the paper makes me chaotic and even if their gloves are in front of my eyes,I do not see them because I cannot find the paper. Glue on your skin, how about that?

Collagen keeps the body together, literally. The word is derived from the Greek Kolla that means glue. The collagen molecule is composed of three polypeptide chains that are twisted around each other and form thick fibrines with enormous tensile strength. These fibrines form a solid base or matrix that supports cells, tissue and bones which creates a vital framework so that organs and limbs function properly.
